At the Prudential Center in New Jersey, where the MTV Video Music Awards 2023 took place, the eyes of the music industry were on the night of Tuesday, September 12.
The 33-year-old pop star walked away with seven awards. Specifically, she took home video of the year for her track "Anti-Hero," artist of the year, song of the year, best pop, best direction, best editing, and best visual effects.
The singer dedicated her awards to the art of songwriting, as well as NSync, who reunited for the first time in a decade to present her with an award, and video editor Chancler Hanes and cinematographer Rina Yang, who spoke on behalf of of Swift for winning video of the year.
Shakira also made her own history at yesterday's awards as she became the first artist from Latin America to be honored with the 'Video Vanuard' award.
"I can not believe it. It is such an important award. I feel excited to be here," the star told reporters on the red carpet.
Shortly before the award, Shakira took to the stage of the MTV awards after 17 years and performed for 10 minutes her famous hits.
In her speech after thanking MTV, which has been part of her career since she was 18, and Sony Music, she mentioned her collaborators, Jaume de Laiguana and Maite Marcos. "Really, I don't know what I would do without you," she said in Spanish and continued.
"I want to thank my parents and my children, Milan and Sasha, for being here. "Thank you so much for cheering me up and making me feel like mommy can do anything." I especially want to share this award with my fans, who always support me through thick and thin. Thank you so much for being my allies and helping me fight all my battles,” said the Colombian star.
And he concluded: “This is for you, my people. Thank you for inspiring me and giving me so much strength and so much will to continue."
Demi Lovato, Card B, Olivia Rodrigo and Maneskin took the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards to sing, among others, who won Best Rock Song for 'The Loneliest'.
The show closed with Grandmaster Flash, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J and other artists performing a performance dedicated to 50 years of the hip-hop scene.
