KPop Demon Hunters hits the big screen with an epic sing-along event this August

Netflix’s hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters is heading to select cinemas for a special sing-along event on August 23 & 24, promising an unforgettable fan experience

The global sensation KPop Demon Hunters is proving it’s much more than just a streaming hit. Only months after its Netflix debut, the animated film that blends the glitz of K-pop with magical fantasy is leaping from the small screen to the cinema — and it’s doing so in spectacular style.

On August 23 and 24, select theaters across the United States and Canada will host special sing-along screenings of the movie. Lyrics will be projected on the big screen, turning each showing into a full-blown concert-like celebration where fans can belt out their favorite tracks together.

At the heart of KPop Demon Hunters are Rumi, Mira, and Zoey — three girls living double lives. By day, they’re members of the explosive girl group HUNTR/X. By night, they transform into demon hunters, sworn to protect the world from supernatural threats. Their rivalry with SAJA BOYS, a rival boy band who wield their powers for personal gain, fuels the movie’s pulse-pounding mix of pop culture, action, and mystery.

Since its release on June 20, the film has taken the world by storm. In under two months, it’s racked up more than 56 million views, landing a spot among Netflix’s four most-watched films of all time. Even more impressively, it’s made Netflix’s Top 10 in 93 different countries — proof that K-pop’s influence now transcends language and culture.

Music plays a starring role in the KPop Demon Hunters experience. The breakout hit “Golden,” performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna & REI AMI, has become a history-making chart-topper. It soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first female group to achieve this since 2001, and the first song from an animated movie to do so since Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”

Not to be outdone, SAJA BOYS landed their own hit with “Idol,” which climbed to No. 8 on the same chart. Other standout tracks — “Soda Pop,” “Free,” and “Takedown” — have also gained major traction. The soundtrack as a whole has been breaking records, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 — the highest position for an animated soundtrack in recent years.

Fans have responded with an outpouring of creativity. TikTok challenges featuring the film’s songs have amassed thousands of entries, social media is flooded with fan videos and favorite quotes, and cosplayers have brought the characters of HUNTR/X and SAJA BOYS to life. Fan clubs are even organizing meet-ups ahead of the sing-along screenings.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has praised the film as “a phenomenon that launched with incredible momentum” and hinted at an even bigger future — including possible sequels, live-action adaptations, and expansions into other media.

The upcoming sing-along screenings are the next logical step in the KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon. For fans, it’s not just another showing — it’s part movie, part concert, part fan gathering. Expect an atmosphere closer to a K-pop live show, complete with singing, dancing, and a shared rush of excitement.

Tickets go on pre-sale August 13, and demand is expected to be huge. With the passion fans have already shown, additional dates or even a global sing-along tour could be on the horizon.

For newcomers, KPop Demon Hunters is proof that when music, storytelling, and animation collide, the result can exceed all expectations. For those who already know every lyric, every dance move, and every scene by heart, this sing-along is the ultimate chance to relive the magic — this time surrounded by hundreds of voices singing in unison.
