U2 return with “Silencio,” a compact, high-energy new track released on September 24, 2026, alongside the announcement of their upcoming album Carnaval De Luz. The record will arrive on November 13 and is set to become the band’s 16th studio album and their first full collection of new material in nine years.
Running for just 2 minutes and 35 seconds, “Silencio” is described by the band as an homage to early surf-punk insolence. The track combines a raw, fast-moving attitude with the experimental side of U2, while additional production comes from Ryan Tedder. Its lyrics move through images of silence, faith, fear and unrest, giving the song a tense, restless quality beneath its energetic surface.
The release is accompanied by an official music video, extending the visual world surrounding the band’s new era. “Silencio” had already been known to fans after U2 were heard working on the song during filming sessions in Mexico City earlier in 2026, including at the historic Salón Los Angeles.
The track also arrives during a significant anniversary year for U2. In September 2026, the band marked 50 years since Larry Mullen Jr. placed the notice at Mount Temple Comprehensive School that led to the group’s formation. That milestone now coincides with a particularly active period, with U2 planning to release 24 new songs across 2026.
Carnaval De Luz contains 12 tracks and explores themes including spirituality, friendship, freedom and endurance. Produced primarily by Jacknife Lee, the album also features contributions from Brian Eno, Martin Garrix and Daniel Lanois, placing “Silencio” within one of the band’s most collaborative projects in years.
