Lewis Capaldi's new romantic ballad has got an image.
Lewis Capaldi releases the heartwarming music video for his new single 'Pointless' from his brand new album 'Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent' out on 19th May 2023.
Intimacy is at the core of Lewis Capaldi's art, and the music video for 'Pointless' is another perfect example.
Directed by Hector Dockrill (Sam Fender, Post Malone) the beautifully cinematic video follows the relationship, and unconditional bond, between a mother (played by Niamh Algar) and her son (played by George Jaques), who they are going through the most difficult moments of adolescence and adulthood.
Lewis Capaldi's return was characteristically jarring, in the most exciting way. He shot straight to the top of the UK singles chart in September with the single 'Forget Me', his third No. 1 in the UK, which quickly went gold and surpassed 100 million streams worldwide.
Lewis Capaldi becomes the fifth artist this year to debut at No. 1 in the UK charts alongside Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Dave and Sam Smith.
Just last week Lewis Capaldi was announced to be one of the headliners for Reading & Leeds Festival 2023. The announcement comes after his upcoming 2023 UK tour sold out in seconds, with other concerts around the world sold out out in record time.
The overwhelming demand doesn't stop there, as Lewis Capaldi was recently crowned 'King of Streaming', with his global hit single 'Someone You Loved' becoming the UK's most streamed song of all time.
'Pointless' is one of the first songs on his new album and was written on the first day with Steve Mac. With Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid also involved in the recording, the trio were working on a song ("which didn't make the album") when Lewis' collaborators mentioned a verse they had previously begun writing with Ed Sheeran.
"Ed had that line: 'I bring her coffee in the morning, she brings me inner peace,'" recalls Lewis Capaldi. "And pretty much every other verse from that opening was just amazing." Inspired, Lewis Capaldi got to work and by the end of the day, 'Pointless' was complete.
For his second album, the idea is simple but effective: to go in and do exactly the same thing. No unnecessary additions or participation of first class artists and no disastrously expensive stays in distant studios. As with his first album, the goal was direct, complete honesty.
“I don't want to create a new sound for myself or reinvent myself. The songs I want to write are emotional songs, about love or loss," says Lewis Capaldi.
He soon found a path that suited him perfectly, using a recording setup that included just a small interface, a laptop, speakers and a Shure SM7B vocal microphone.
“I felt like I sounded better because I was just relaxed in my own space. Also, a lot of this record was done with most of the same people I worked with on the first record: TMS, Phil Plested, Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway,” he comments.
It is certain that the first album 'Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent' was a huge success. It sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and launched Lewis Capaldi into superstardom.
It also became the UK's highest-selling album of 2019 and 2020, spawning two No. 1 singles in the UK and a No. 1 smash hit on both sides of the globe with 'Someone You Loved', while also picking up a couple of BRIT Awards and a Grammy nomination.
