Miley expands the dark visual world of Bass Persuades with “Different Religion,” a new collaboration with Model/Actriz’s Cole Haden. Directed by Mert Alas, the cinematic video turns desire, faith and attraction into a striking desert-road fantasy as the album continues its successful run following a Number One debut on the Billboard 200.
Miley pushes deeper into the darker world of Bass Persuades with “Different Religion,” a new single featuring Cole Haden of Model/Actriz. The track arrives with a cinematic music video directed by Mert Alas, extending the visual identity of an album that has already become one of the biggest moments of her latest era.
The video opens on an isolated desert road surrounded by mountains, immediately establishing a sense of movement, danger and escape. A car races through the landscape before Miley is revealed behind the wheel, framed in red light as the song begins to unfold. The imagery matches the track’s central idea: desire becomes something close to faith, with attraction replacing traditional ideas of salvation.
Throughout the visual, Miley moves between several striking settings and moods. At one point she is seen playing guitar, while other sequences switch into black-and-white photography. Model Charlie Knepper joins her during the drive, visually reinforcing the song’s references to a seductive figure who becomes the object of devotion. The video stays focused on atmosphere rather than a conventional storyline, using speed, bodies, light and the open road to build tension.
Cole Haden also plays an important role in the song itself. The Model/Actriz vocalist and Miley trade verses before joining together, giving “Different Religion” a more confrontational and unconventional character than a straightforward pop duet. Different models appear throughout the video lip-syncing sections of the track, adding another layer to its stylized, almost ritualistic presentation.
Lyrically, the song treats romance and physical attraction through religious imagery. Miley sings about wanting to be saved by a different religion and craving something she can believe in, while the verses connect faith with desire, fast cars and physical presence. That contrast between spirituality and sexuality becomes one of the defining ideas of both the song and its visual.
“Different Religion” is taken from Miley’s tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, which has quickly become a major commercial success. The record recently reached Number One on the Billboard 200, giving Miley her first chart-topping album there since Bangerz in 2013.
The new video arrives as the Bass Persuades era continues to develop beyond the album itself. Rather than treating each single as a separate visual, Miley and Mert Alas have created a recognizable world around the project — dark, physical, stylish and deliberately cinematic. “Different Religion” fits directly into that approach, turning one of the album’s most intense songs into a visual built around temptation, faith and the need to surrender to something new.
