Ed Sheeran releases emotionally charged new single 'Boat' along with an allegorical music video.
'Boat', from the singer's upcoming album 'Subtract', was written by the English seaside in winter and takes a candid look at depression, with Ed Sheeran using a boat as a metaphor for trying to keep the water at bay of.
"'Boat' is the first song I wrote and completed for 'Subtract,'" Sheeran said in a statement. "It's where it all started, and a good way to start the album."
In the music video for 'Boat', directed by Mia Barnes, Ed Sheeran appears in the waves of a British beach.
The images bring the song's lyrics to life as Ed Sheeran tries to break the cycle of sadness. "They say all scars heal, but I know they probably won't," Ed Sheeran sings, adding, "The waves won't break my boat."
Last month, Ed Sheeran returned with new song 'Eyes Closed', the lead single from his upcoming album '-' (Subtract).
"Eyes Closed" debuted at No. 1 in the UK charts and became Ed Sheeran's 14th UK number one song. Also, "Eyes Closed" has rocketed to No. 7 of the International Airplay Chart in Greece.
Ed Sheeran's confessional new album 'Subtract' will be released via Atlantic Records / Warner Music on May 5 and will feature 14 tracks.
