The Weeknd - Jealous Guy

The Weeknd's ethereal voice meets John Lennon's classic song.

The Weeknd has released his cover of John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy' which was first heard on his new TV series 'The Idol'.

The Canadian artist first revealed the arrangement's existence back in April when he teased 'The Idol' soundtrack, while also announcing the release of Future's 'Double Fantasy'.

The Weeknd sang 'Jealous Guy' live on stage at his 'After Hours Til Dawn Tour' concert in Norway last week.

"Jealous Guy" was born during the Beatles' time studying Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India, in the spring of 1968.

Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote songs inspired by a lecture given by the Maharishi on the place of humans as children of mother nature.

Paul McCartney's 'Mother Nature's Son' is one of the softer moments on The Beatles' 'The White Album', while John Lennon wrote 'Child Of Nature', a song that opens with the lyrics 'On the road to Rishikesh , I was dreaming more or less", on the tune that would become known to millions as "Jealous Guy".

The Beatles recorded a demo of the song in May 1968 for inclusion on 'The White Album'.

That demo, recorded in Esher, England, is a tender performance, with the mandolin adding a Mediterranean flavor to the song.

However, for unknown reasons, the song was not included on the album and John Lennon tried to bring it back during the recordings for 'Get Back' in January 1969.

Eventually, 'Jealous Guy' was included on John Lennon's personal album 'Imagine' in 1971, and Donny Hathaway later released his own version.

The Weeknd's cover of 'Jealous Guy' was released on digital platforms shortly after the release of the original songs heard on the third episode of 'The Idol'.

Among them, The Weeknd and BLACKPINK's Jennie's long-awaited collaboration 'One Of The Girls', which also features Lily-Rose Depp, and 'Lesser Man'.

The new series "The Idol" airs every Sunday on HBO and is available for streaming on Max.
